Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a kindergarten teacher at Sugar Grove Elementary. The school is located in a low income at risk community. As a result of Hurricane Katrina, I also have students in my class from New Orleans. My class is participating in a program called "Book It". It is a five month reading program that allows the students to earn a free pizza coupon each month for reading or having books read to them. The titles of some of the books I read to the class are: Green Eggs and Ham, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Bread and Jam for Frances, How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and What food is this? The students would ask me questions like what is that food and what does it taste like? The best way for the students to become familiar with different foods is for them to start cooking. The cooking activities will expose my students to a wide variety of foods. The various kitchen appliances needed for these cooking projects are: mixer,blender,toaster oven,electric mixer and can opener.
