My Project

Litchfield Hills Transition Center, is a program for special needs students, ages 18-22. We are a state mandated transition program that is part of New Milford Public School system. We prepare young adults with disabilities to become productive and contributing members of the community. Our center provides developmental programs that focus on improving employability skills, increasing independence, and building stronger independent living skills. It works on strengthening peer relationship skills that will enhance the quality of life for young adults and their families. We will utilize the materials requested in this grant to create independence in cooking skills, which will enhance the students' lives. They will be able to further develop social skills while cooking in small groups. Students will learn the value in cooking healthy meals; taking their knowledge on nutrition with them when they leave the program. The functional daily skills that will be learned from the use of these materials will include problem solving, following recipes, shopping and budgeting skills.
