My Project
As a Special Education teacher of young adults on the Autism Spectrum and with multiple disabilities, independent living skills are the backbone of daily instruction in order to ensure post-graduation success.
This year, I have the pleasure of working in our school's newly renovated apartment classroom, with a fully functional kitchen, bathroom, laundry area, closet, office space and bedroom.
Cooking simple meals is an essential skill that many of my students can master with continued practice and repetition. I would love to provide my students with greater opportunities to prepare simple meals, snacks and drinks in a true-to-life setting! A toaster oven would enhance our apartment kitchen by teaching students how to utilize the toaster oven to prepare some of their favorite meals, such as grilled cheese and pizza bagels! These materials will support multiple classes that work within the room on a daily basis.
This is an amazing opportunity for my students to enhance the learning we have tried to provide within the traditional classroom setting. Please help make this a reality! We truly appreciate it!
