My Project
Elementary school is a crucial time to build the foundations needed for future success, but it's not all about academics. These early years are crucial for learning the social skills like empathy, compassion, and communication that will shape the rest of their lives. These are sometimes tough conversations, but are made easier by looking at the topics through the lens of a book.
I am requesting social-emotional learning books by Julia Cook and other authors.
These books will be shared among the grade level(s) and used to have the sometimes difficult conversations that are necessary about how to be a good friend. By using a book to focus and discuss sensitive topics, students are able to still apply the lessons to their own lives without feeling put on the spot to share what's happening in real life. Using books to model empathy, conversations, and life skills is a crucial part of elementary school.
