Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kids have boundless energy and enthusiasm for learning, and they rise to every challenge they are given. They thrive with activities that are fun, hands-on, and meaningful.
I teach Kindergarten in a beautifully culturally/racially/linguistically diverse, low-income, high-need public school.
Almost all of my 24 students are English Learners , and all of my students are courageous, enthusiastic learners who enjoy hands on, playful experiences that let them gain independence and learn math and science in real world contexts. They love to help each other, and beam with pride when they can make real contributions to the classroom community.
My Project
The littlest learners learn the most from real experiences with tangible results. This cooking equipment would allow students to take turns cooking our class snack every morning. The smell of banana bread, cheese sticks and more will fill our classroom, and students will proudly serve their classmates, providing them will healthy snacks to fuel their learning. When children cook using kid-friendly recipes, they practice number recognition, counting, measuring and reading. They develop their scientific curiosity, predicting how the ingredients will change by being mixed and heated. Practicing all of these skills in a real life situation will draw my students in, and fully engage them in science and math learning.
I am so proud of how hardworking and compassionate all of my students are.
They rise to any challenge, and greet each new learning opportunity with such joy. They will love the opportunity to develop their skills while providing a real service to their classmates. They will develop independence and self-confidence, and see themselves as powerful mathematicians and scientists.
