My school's math coach and I are in charge of creating math and literacy family nights each school year. Last year we started a Cooks and Books family night that we had to complete virtually. This year we will be in person! Therefore, we need supplies to help make this evening a success. Throughout the evening teachers, students, and families will read books and participate in math and literacy related discussions.
The evening will culminate with students and families creating a dessert related to the books we've read.
We will use the cooking tools to create the desserts and then have them on hand for the following years as we continue to implement this event. We will also raffle off cookbooks at the end of the evening so that students and parents can continue the fun at home. This assists us in strengthening the bridge between school and home and helps students see how math and literacy affect all areas of our lives.
