My students are considered special needs. They are low in the areas of reading, writing, and math. In middle school, I teach a modified curriculum to them. Once they get to high school, they will be working towards a certificate of completion. Our school is in a low-income area. It is a very small town and there are not a lot of resources available for the students. Some students come from blended families and they have struggled with fitting in with other students their same age. With the pressure of dealing with their home life and middle school, it can be challenging. I treat my classroom as a little getaway from the issues they may encounter.
Everybody in my class works hard.
With the struggles they overcome, all my students put forth their best effort in order to be successful. Yes, we may not see eye to eye on some things, but we are a family and we get through everything together.
The students work together, which practices great team building skills! They overcome obstacles when they approach them. By hard work, staying focused; they are superheroes in the making.
My Project
This project consist of a cooking tools, gadgets and devices for my students. In the next few months, we will be doing a cooking unit in math class. We will incorporate everything we have covered this school year; budgeting, money, measurements and more. I would like to end the year on a strong note, so I thought cooking would be the best idea!
The toaster oven, stove top burner, and blender will help my students create some delicious meals.
We will learn the importance of kitchen safety and use the tools to prepare some great food items. We will using the measuring cups and cutting boards to help with the lesson.
In addition, the pop figures will be an additional decoration for our classroom. The kids love the pop figures displayed as they provide a great role model for them!
