Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Ooh, we want to cook too!" These are the words that resonated throughout my classroom from all the boys when they discovered that the girls were cooking during their extended learning program. My boys want to cook also, but we do not have enough cooking supplies.

My second graders are an energetic group of inner-city, young scholars who are eager to learn in an interactive, hands-on environment.

They attend an affiliated charter school with an emphasis on math, science, and technology. Throughout the year, they will be exposed to a myriad of learning experiences that will help narrow the learning gap and bridge the digital divide.

My Project

The boys in my classroom desperately want to cook during their extended learning time. When they heard that their female classmates cooked during their extended day club, my boys unanimously wanted to do the same. I couldn't deny them when they all decided to cook instead of build structures. However, we have limited cooking supplies. My students need a blender, griddle, pots and pans, toaster, mixing bowls, and other related cooking materials. I am also requesting the "Cooking to Learn" book. It contains safe, kid friendly recipes and integrated activities. Cooking is a fun and practical way for my students to learn. They will improve their language arts skills when reading different recipes and ingredients. They will be able to predict outcomes and understand scientific process skills when they follow the step by step baking directions. Their math skills will also be strengthened as they learn to measure, keep time, and monitor the temperature.

By receiving the much needed cooking supplies, my students will be able to experience the joy of cooking twice each week and gain life long learning skills.

The boys in my classroom will be able to have the same enriched, extended learning program as the girls. Your donation will make this a reality.
