Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. I teach many classes about culinary careers, family, and how to cook while maintaining a healthy and balanced diet. We currently do not have any air fryers, Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combos or an Instant Pot, so having them would provide my students with more cooking opportunities. I would teach the students the versatility of using various cooking techniques, which can enhance the cooking process. These requested pieces of cookware create healthier ways to prepare food and will provide new and interesting recipes that can be used outside of school. The scales, spatulas and other items on the list are crucial in the kitchen, as the items we have now are getting old or broken. Kitchen safety and sanitation are crucial; new utensils will help ensure these precautions are taken.

My goal for the students is for them to learn as many cooking styles as possible which they can use for the rest of their lives.

Throughout my classes and the school, there is a lot of diversity. During Foods Around the World Week, my students make an authentic meal from their cultural background. Students have made Cuban, Mexican, German, Thai, and Puerto Rican dishes. This provides an amazing experience to try new dishes and an opportunity to get to know everyone better through different cultural cooking experiences. Access to different and new cookware will create more opportunities to bake different types of foods, explore different cooking methods, and more. With your help, the students will be able to cook meals that are not only delicious but also healthy and safe.
