This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from Gilroy, CA, and have joined my Culinary Arts class to learn all about food and cooking. I am training them to be successful in the kitchen whether they are looking for this as a career or if they want to learn to cook for themselves. This program gives children from all cultures, areas, and various incomes an opportunity to learn important life skills, thrive within the school and build a better community inside and outside of school. My students are eager to learn and thrive in this industry sector.

My Project

In the kitchen, we use various small equipment items on a daily basis. Currently, we do not have enough for each group and many of the sets we do have are missing pieces or damaged. Having proper sets of items like measuring cups, scales, and other tools helps our students use basic math on a daily basis when portioning out ingredients. Other tools like storage racks and pans help with organization and teach students how to properly store items they are working with. Everything on this list benefits the students by allowing them to work productively to their full potential without having to stop and find another group with the piece of equipment they need.

By donating to our project you are helping my students better their classroom environment, and also helping them learn how to work more effectively in the kitchen.

When they are focused on their task, they can learn the process better instead of stopping and starting throughout the class period.

I have seen the focus my students have as they work in the kitchen, now I need to give them the tools to keep that focus consistent so they can grow and learn.
