Cooking in K- Part 2: Let's Start!

Help me give my students access to cooking lessons. We do cooking every Friday, and previously had our toaster oven and mixing bowls funded through Donors Choose! We tie all lessons to subjects such as math and science.

My Project

I teach a K/1 substantially separate special education classroom for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other Developmental Disabilities. We do weekly cooking lessons to practice life skills along with aspects of math and science. Tying lessons to a cooking lesson keeps students engaged and provides hands on, multisensory learning.

Cooking is a life skill necessary for all students to learn, and allows for students to learn safety awareness in the kitchen.

We previously received funding for our cooking equipment, but ingredients get costly, and donations would allow us to continue cooking things of interest to students. Students with Autism also commonly have difficulty trying new foods, and this would allow them to try new items to see if they like it.
