Cooking Corner: Take 3

My students need a Frozen Yogurt/Ice Cream/Sorbet Maker which they can use on a co-independent basis. The storage unit will house all of our small appliances.

My Students

My students cook on a weekly basis in our classroom. With the use of small appliances, they are able to prepare meals/snacks on an independent basis, or with minimal assistance. As my students gain more independence through practice while in school, I am preparing them for the 'real working world.'

My high school students are within an inner-city school district.

My students attend a Life Skills Support program where they learn, practice, and maintain functional skills they will take with them upon finishing their high school career. My high school students' abilities range from total independence at school to total reliance on adults for the maintenance of functional skills.

My Project

My high school students enjoy cooking from our curriculum on a weekly basis. When the Culinary Arts kitchen is not available for us to share, we rely on our small appliances to use within our classroom. With the addition of the Ice Cream Maker, the students will continue to use their math skills in measurements, social skills while partnering up with a peer, and verbal skills when taking orders. The students will be able to house all of our small appliances on the new shelf. The students will be able to access all of our small appliances on this shelf, with its height of only 30".

The DonorsChoose program has assisted our classroom with four previously funded projects.

When the students learn that another project has been funded, their joy and excitement is out of this world! This project will not only give us another small appliance, but a wonderful cabinet to store items, where all students can access items. The students love the DonorsChoose program and its sponsors!
