Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in my classroom is students engaged in learning through various learning styles, having class discussions, using technology to interact with content, as well as building skills like reading and writing in scientific context.
My students are eager to learn and have routines but often lack a lot of the skills and content knowledge they should have by tenth grade.
They want learning to be fun and exciting and get put off when it gets monotonous or difficult. My school has a focus on Hospitality fields like Culinary and Hotel and Tourism, but also offers traditional classes required for graduation.
My Project
My students need Post-it Notes, Sharpies, and dry-erase markers to build a Conversation Wall in my classroom. These resources will help us build a Conversation Wall for our classroom. Students will either use dry-erase markers, Post-its, or taped construction paper to add comments to a large white-board in the classroom. These comments will be a part of a larger class discussion that spans across all sections of my classes and allows for dialogue even when students aren't in the same room. Students will keep materials organized in the caddys for each group table. Students will learn how to interact with others, share ideas, and reflect on their peers' thoughts through our Conversation Wall.
Since I teach science, I am particularly concerned with my students grasping the idea that this subject is collaborative and no science is completed by one person alone.
This project will allow students the opportunity to interact with each other in a fun, engaging space that encourages participation, individuality, and intellectual conversation. In turn, this project will make students more likely and able to carry on their own thoughtful conversations beyond my classroom and into the world.
