My 5th graders come to science every day with some sort of technology in their hands. They are always itching to get on their computers and understand how the technology they are using really works. I have even witnessed a few students taking apart a robot they made to demonstrate to the class how all of the different parts interact to make it work.
My students are hands-on, motivated learners with a thirst to better comprehend the technology they use every day.
They always want to do projects where they can build and create something new. Their love for technology and crafts inspires me to want to create more engaging and innovative projects based on their interests and the needs of an advancing society.
My Project
With our world becoming more and more technologically advanced, I believe it is necessary to start bringing coding into the classroom. Through the Evo Classroom Kit my students will get a fun, hands-on, and engaging introduction to coding. With this kit my students will first start coding by drawing code with markers that their robots can follow. Once they have mastered this step, they can start coding using the online program. Through the online program, my students can watch their coding come to life! Their robots will sync with their computers to read and carry out the code they have created.
Not only will the Evo Kit give my students a hands-on introduction to coding, but it will also teach them problem solving skills by allowing them to engineer solutions.
These skills will be essential to their development as students, regardless of their future career fields.
