Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it feels like to want to do something but not have the tools to do it? My handyman husband says you are only as good as your tools. Well, my writers don't have the tool they need to work efficiently.
My students are predominantly Hispanic and come from low income families.
They are mostly first generation immigrants whose parents are not computer literate; therefore most do not have a computer at home. They attend a school that fosters a safe learning environment where administration/teacher/student interaction is positive. These students take pride in their work as they have reached the peak of their middle school years.
My Project
My 8th graders have come a long way in our writers workshop process and a class printer would make their stories come to life at our "Author Slam." A printer would give these writers the tool they need not only to make drafting, revising, and editing process more efficient, but to be able to share their works of art as models for the rest of the school and with the world.
We ask kids to work smarter, not harder.
Having this printer would help the publishing process a reality. Just think how students will feel when they see their work is presentable and ready to be submitted to a Young Authors Contest and WIN!
