My Students

I am a teacher of a full day Kindergarten classroom. With 20 students in all, our class is an active group. I have 8 students that started the year at 4 years old. Some children live in the neighborhood and others drive from other parts of town. This creates a very diverse group.

I have been teaching for 29 years.

I taught both primary and intermediate grades many, many years ago. For 15 years I taught in a special education resource room for children with learning disabilities. At this point in my teaching career it was time for a change and an opportunity to follow my passion – teach kindergarten. I have taught kindergarten for 11 years. I hope to teach kindergarten until I retire. I love working with kindergartners. It’s a very special year in a child’s life. Kindergarten is the foundation for the rest of their education. The parents are very involved and I welcome their support and partnership in teaching their children how to be successful learners. Communication through newsletters and materials is vital for our work together as facilitators of learning. The printer is essential for this purpose.

My Project

I am requesting a Wireless Color All-in-One Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Copier and ink to support my professional development classes. Teaching requires continuous learning and growing. I attend a weekly course provided through my school district. The classes cover topics centered around the Common Core Standards. I need to type information, print worksheets, scan and upload responses for the course. This purchase will allow me to not only grow as a professional but improve the quality of instruction in the classroom. The All-in-One Printer with Scanner and Copier would help me create more higher level thinking lesson plans as instructed by the Common Core State Standards. I need a printer to utilize the skills I am learning in my professional development class. I am learning how to create more effective word problems and thinking activities, and therefore become a more effective facilitator of learners.

The school is small and we receive few federally funded programs.

Because of our size, we lack the backing that public schools in our city are afforded. We try our best to attain certain materials through grants and parent donations, but many of our families can't always afford to help. Our size hinders what percentage of families that can give. By developing my teaching skills, I can not only increase my students' thinking skills but also share my new skills with my colleagues.
