Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The eighth-grade AVID Elective course is an introduction to the AVID philosophy. Students will develop an awareness of the values accompanying academic goals and success. The course will focus on building self-confidence and communication skills in working with peers and adults. Students will be exposed to reading strategies that will assist in vocabulary building and understanding a variety of texts, and will also focus on pre-writing techniques, summary writing, and structural components of note-taking. The students will increase college and career awareness through guest speaker presentations, field trip opportunities, and research.

We provide the students with an opportunity to be submerged in career and college readiness while providing them with the keys necessary to be successful.

My Project

By helping to fund these materials, I will be able to give each student their own set of learning materials instead of the class set that was given before the pandemic. The paper and binding materials will enable me to create books that will be distributed for each student to have their own.

The no-touch sanitizer dispenser will enable my students to be able to sanitize their hands while reducing cross-contamination due to not needing to touch the pump.

Being able to have this project funded will make a world of difference.
