Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the privilege of teaching 22 amazing, unique, and loving kindergarten students who come from a range of different backgrounds. My classroom population consists of students many of whom are from low-income families, single-parent homes, and dedicated parents who take comfort in knowing their children have a positive and safe classroom they can go to each day.
Despite the adversity they may face, my students come to school excited to learn, and often consider my classroom a second home.
I feel blessed to have the opportunity to offer these students the educational environment they deserve.
My Project
During the COVID-19 pandemic, my desire to provide my students access to the learning they deserve has remained my top priority. Now more than ever my students need your help. Our school uses an online math and reading program which students really enjoy, however only 6 of my students have working headphones. Unfortunately, for most of my student's families, spending money on headphones for their student is simply not possible, when they are worried about affording food and clothing. Students without working headphones struggle to focus due to background noise and often can't hear the learning activities our school uses on a daily basis. All students deserve to have headphones that will allow them to have an equal opportunity to access the school's online resources and learning activities! These markers and math resources will also significantly help increase student engagement and help my students have a fun, exciting way to learn and practice important math concepts.
