My Students
English Language Learners (ELs) in Alaska come from the most diverse set of culture and language backgrounds of any state in the country. Our ELs are students with a wide range of skills and talents, sometimes arriving in our classrooms with prior English instruction and use, and sometimes with none.
Wherever our ELs are on their language acquisition journey, I'm thrilled to welcome their families into our educational community and to help their students realize academic, social, and emotional success!
My Project
These magazines will significantly expand my access to timely, relevant materials for my English Language Learners (ELs). Their focus on important issues in social studies and sciences will help students learn the importance of recognizing, understanding, and utilizing academic vocabulary in current contexts.
Students will also share these magazines with their families, selecting stories to discuss and journal about with them, helping to establish an important connection between classroom and home.
Ultimately, the goal of this support course for ELs is to more rapidly develop students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, and positively impact their ability to realize academic success.
