My Students

I work with 450 kinder through third-grade students each week. My student population is diverse, ranging in cultures, home languages, socioeconomics, interests, and abilities. These students are fortunate to have the opportunity to study Spanish for an hour weekly starting in kindergarten and continuing through eighth grade.

I aim to take full advantage of every minute with my students via engaging, rigorous and joyful learning.

My goal is to inspire in my students a curiosity and passion for world languages and cultures.

My Project

At the annual American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages conference I will learn new content by attending sessions such as: Exploring Culture Through the Lens of Social Justice; Prepare Globally Competent Learners: Innovative Techniques for Using Technology; Brain Breaks: Increasing Engagement, Proficiency and Joy; Comprehensible Input for Young Learners; and Connecting Language with Content. What I learn will directly influence curriculum and teaching practices and in turn influence 450 students annually.

Not only will I learn new content from the conference sessions, I will also have the rare opportunity to connect with national leaders in the field of Foreign Language in Elementary School (FLES).

With these new connections, I will have exponentially more opportunity for collaboration. Working with other teachers who are in similar contexts will lead to better curriculum and instructional practices for the benefit of my students.
