Our 8th grade is the best! My 8th graders come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. Our school is a Title I school. We're a suburban community that pulls students from a wide range of neighborhoods.
My 8th graders are on the edge between childhood and adulthood; they are so ready to soar.
In middle school, each day brings them closer to discovering who they're going to be. Each day gives them an opportunity to grow into responsible, respectful adults.
My Project
Every time a student picks up a book, they're entering another world. For some, this world is an escape from their everyday life. For others, it's a window into the life of others. For others still, it's a mirror on their own world, and a way to explore possibilities through other's experiences.
My classroom library should represent a wide range of stories.
My students are diverse, and the stories the read should be too. I am looking to add 10 contemporary novels to my classroom library. Considering my current classroom library, and my student population, I selected novels that represent a variety of people who are currently underrepresented in my library.
I surveyed students to see what books they're interested in. I found titles recommended by #ownvoices and #weneeddiversebooks supporters, and asked my students to help whittle down the list. This list reflects the kinds of stories my current students want to read!
My 8th grade English classes check out books from my library constantly. They are voracious readers! Please support my students with literature that will serve them well.
