My students need Chromebooks to allow them to expand the resources of our classroom beyond the tangible materials of the classroom. The web provides numerous contemporary sources for students to design, research, and experiment with chemistry.

My Students

My school is located in the center of the Silicon Valley. Being located in such an intensely tech based environment, my students and their families are deeply invested in science. Consequently, as a Chemistry teacher I am constantly trying to really engage the students in seeing the implications and real life connections that science can have.

Challenging these high achieving and tremendously adept students is a constant issue in my classroom.

So many of my students are the product of engineers, CEO's and computer scientists. They have been exposed to such a rich science background already that I am always searching for materials that can aid me in my search for more ways to bring challenging science to the classroom.

My Project

The current state of education as well as the Next Generation Science Standards, have resulted in my students attempting to learn Chemistry without a current textbook/resources. The textbook companies have yet to publish any that reflect the current standards.

Chemistry principles have changed very little, however the way the concepts connect to our world have evolved greatly.

As a result of these changes and new associations, I am seeking Chromebooks for my classroom to allow more access to the web for my students.

These dedicated computers would allow me to guarantee access for my students and thereby allow me to build the web into the curriculum more than ever before. I can build in ways for students to write, read, draft lab reports as a group, research modifications for lab procedures.
