My Project
We love when our students learn for learning's sake. If we are asking them to go out on a limb, however, sometimes at the beginning an incentive can play an important role.
When students in my World Language and Cultures class memorize all the countries of a particular continent, they are rewarded with a candy bar.
This is outside the curriculum, but great extra credit work.
Students will not know what they're capable of if they're not stretched, and inviting them to something of high-interest when they accomplish this new task makes them a little more willing to try.
