Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Classroom libraries are an essential part of engaging students in reading. It is said that children who have ready access to classroom libraries read 50% more than students in classrooms without libraries. At Walsh Elementary School, we are trying to create classroom libraries that will engage students and invite them to read books independently. To do this, there are many changes that need to take place in the classroom and furniture that needs to be added. In my fourth grade classroom, my goal is to create an inviting area with comfortable seating with enticing displays. I would like to have the collection of books sorted into genres. For this, I will need bins that will be labeled by genre, book display shelves so that books can face out, bean bags, and pillows. I would also like to have a listening center, so that students can read along with books that are considered their \\\"challenge books.\\\" This listening center will also serve as a tool during our guided reading sessions. I believe that building a welcoming classroom library in my room will help to support my students\\\' guided and independent reading. It\\\'s also my hope to make all students in my room active independent readers.
