Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at the tip of Texas, bordering Mexico, where my students speak Spanglish. They face many challenges such as dyslexia, special needs, and are socioeconomically disadvantaged, but that doesn't stop them from dreaming big.

They are determined, hard-working children, willing to learn no matter their circumstances.

I teach second-grade bilingual students who inspire me daily. These students come every day excited to start class. They enjoy hands-on activities, crafts, group activities, and especially working with technology. They face many challenges, but they don't let these challenges take over their learning experience.

Many students are economically disadvantaged. Many come without knowing English, but with their determination and support from their families, they can conquer everything. However, none of those factors affect these children because they want to learn. It is very satisfying seeing all these children progress throughout the school year.

I work at a very supportive school where students come first. We are all about meeting their needs. Our administrators have created a safe, happy environment for everyone: students, staff, teachers, and parents. I love working at the very tip of Texas, where my students are unique and wonderful.

My Project

In order for students to become lifelong learners, teachers need to provide them with opportunities of creating and designing in the classroom at a young age where they are not intimidated by new challenges. We are requesting a HP Desktop computer to instill a desire to create and design in order to have a safe environment.

Introducing them to applying their science and math skills through something as tangible as using a HP desktop computer to print on the class 3D printer and building out of their own imagination is a skill they need to become career and college ready and construct a healthy and safe environment.

My students will become problem solvers by designing and 3D printing devices that will help our everyday lives. With the HP computer, students will have to use math skills, such as area, perimeter, and volume to design a helpful 3D device for their class pet - a guinea pig. They will also have to identify the pet’s needs and its habitat to make sure it is the best device for it, hence making their environment safe and productive.
