Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a TK-5th grade, Title I income, school in the heart of San Diego, CA. 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch every day. There is great cultural diversity in my class encompassing students from almost every continent. Each student brings a heritage to our school that further enriches each individuals' identity. My students have a range of mild-to-moderate disabilities, such as, Autism, Learning Disabilities, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Each student radiates with happiness and enjoys coming to school.
I want to celebrate each student and all they’ve persevered through the past two years.
My students' social-emotional needs and social skills have greatly been impacted with the COVID-19 pandemic and school closure. I believe these supplies and gifts will bring joy and encouragement to continue learning and growing.
My Project
Now that we are back at school in person, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and school closure, I want to surprise my students with new prizes in the treasure chest and incentives they can earn all year! My students are internally, as well as externally motivated (fidgets, toys, candy, food). They earn Z-Bucks to provide immediate positive reinforcement, as well as a tactic to teach them that their cumulative achievements, when done consistently, can lead to larger goals.
These prizes will help encourage my students to challenge themselves and gain confidence to work to the best of their ability.
As they earn prizes, they will be improving their personal skills and fill in their learning gaps from the last school year.
