This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The other day, one of my highly energetic physical education students asked to do push-ups on the floor. It was eighth period on a Friday, and I allowed it because I was concerned he might otherwise injure someone. He's the type of student who, if unsupervised, will jump over a desk.
How can we channel the energy of these students into focused learning?
There's scientific evidence linking movement and cognitive function.
Wouldn't it be beneficial to provide classroom-appropriate weights for students to use when their energy levels are high? I'm requesting soft weights and a peanut ball chair. The chair would be available for students who are waiting to use the weights. Providing these tools would support students in developing self-regulation, a vital component of social-emotional learning.
