Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are part of a Dual Language program located in Washington Heights, New York. Our school has a large ELL population and high needs for differentiation and authentic learning experiences. I am one half of the first grade dual language class along with my wonderful counterpart. Our sole purpose is to provide an enriching learning experience to our students each and every day. These 45 students are split into two groups and learn in a different language each day. One day, they are with me learning literacy, math, social studies, and science with me in Spanish! And the next day, they are doing the same in English with my co-teacher. This is their second year in the program and are no strangers to the academic rigor this program demands from our students.
I have vivacious students in my classroom who deserve the best resources and tools to enhance their learning.
My classroom could hold the next Barack Obama, Frida Kahlo, or Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I only wish to provide them with the most up to date resources and tools to bring out the very best in these bright souls.
My Project
In order to make their classroom more clutter-free our classroom needs more storage spaces, and storage supplies.
These colorful mobile organizers are exactly what we need to make our classroom more fun and organized.
Instead of putting everything in bins, these carts will be used as our literacy and math "centers"! We also need more bags to store our book baggies, more baskets for our growing library, labels to help us know what is what, and easel pad for daily anchor charts, and more colored pencils to do more projects!
All these supplies will help promote and encourage a cooperative learning environment that allows my bilingual students to learn to their best abilities.
