This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching is my passion but there are many obstacles, especially with working in an inner city. My students range in age from 14-17 and are taking either Algebra 1 or Algebra 2. Many of my students have faced many adversities in their communities and at home, and most come to school and try to work as hard as possible to make the most of their time in high school. My students struggle due to learning gaps in their years of education but would be able to bridge that gap if given the necessary materials, such as calculators.

My Project

This project is intended for Algebra 1 students in a magnet high school. I teach at a high-needs school where resources are extremely low.

I would love for them to have the resources and materials that would help them succeed as mathematicians and build their excitement for learning.

One of the areas that Algebra students struggle in is graphing equations. I want to incorporate more hands-on opportunities for students to master this skill!

My Project

One of the biggest struggles with Algebra 1 students is understanding how to graph functions in the coordinate plane. My project is designed the have the students use hands-on materials to truly understand how to graph functions.
