it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students represent the broadest possible cross-section of our community. We are a choice school, not an attendance area school. Families choose our school because we are the first public STEM, K-8 school developed in our rural border county.
We are not a school for gifted students, enrollment is not selective, but on a first-come-first-serve basis; we have students from across the full spectrum of abilities, socio-economic backgrounds, and demographics.
Like effectively everyone else across the U.S. we are dealing with the current public health crisis; we are teaching to students physically present with us in the classroom, and their peers in the virtual learning environment at the same time. We try to integrate the scientific method and the engineering design process into all that we do. We apply a trans-disciplinary approach to all subjects and seek to maximize student engagement and empowerment at every opportunity.
My Project
Everyone's future is always uncertain, we all just feel it more today, than before the pandemic. Realistically, we will continue to have some mix of in-person and remote instruction well into the foreseeable future. This equipment will help me bridge the gap between the students physically present with me in the classroom and their peers joining through a virtual learning environment in real time, with far greater equity than before.
Now more than ever, teachers connecting with students, and students connecting with each other is critical to achieving learning outcomes in the contemporary classroom.
The AirPod Pro's will enable me to stay connected to my students in the virtual learning environment through the audio connection that enables me to hear the virtual students while being selective about when it is appropriate to connect them to their in-person learning peers. The built-in noise cancelling microphone will allow the virtual learning environment students to clearly hear me when they need to, and allow me to be selective about when to connect the the in-person students. The local area connection will enable me to maintain that same level of engagement with all students, in both learning environments simultaneously, no matter where I go inside the classroom.
Now that I have to teach to students in two different learning environments at the same time, my connection to my computer and through it, to the internet are essential. The rolling adjustable desk will allow me to move my essential technology with me wherever I go in the classroom to maintain my connection and engagement with all of the students, regardless of learning environment.
