My Project
Within our school we are incredibly proud of our hard-working students and dedicated staff.
We believe that fostering not only academic excellence but also strong social and emotional skills is paramount to our students' long-term success and well-being.
To that end, we have identified a common need across our entire school community to deepen our focus in the following crucial areas:
Self-Regulation: Helping students and staff manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively.
Social Awareness: Cultivating empathy, understanding diverse perspectives, and navigating social situations constructively.
Sense of Belonging: Creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every member of our school feels valued, connected, and safe.
Perseverance: Building resilience, grit, and the ability to overcome challenges
Self-Efficacy: Strengthening the belief in one's own ability to succeed and accomplish tasks.
To effectively address these needs and engage our students in learning these vital skills, we are excited to launch a school-wide initiative utilizing the engaging and accessible "SPOT" book series by Diane Alber. These wonderful books, such as A Little Spot of Life Skills, A Little Spot Takes Action, and A Little Spot of Feelings, Emotions, and Learning, provide a relatable and fun way for students of all ages to explore and understand complex social and emotional concepts.
Furthermore, we aim to incorporate the "Get to Know Me" conversation cards from the "A Little SPOT" series. These cards will be invaluable in fostering social awareness, building connections, and strengthening our sense of belonging.
We recognize that explicitly teaching and modeling these skills through engaging resources like the "SPOT" series will not only enhance our students' academic engagement and achievement but also contribute to a more positive and thriving school culture for everyone.
