My Project

When students reach the 3rd grade they start to really find their way into what they like to read. Their curiosity leads them to non-fiction because they want to learn more about the world around them. I love to watch my student's excitement grow as they learn something new, and how they will come up to me and show me exactly what new fact they are excited about!

Scholastic News is a fantastic way to develop this wonder and excitement.

It gives them interesting, current event articles about things from all over the world. They can make real-world connections. The exposure to the articles also is a perfect way for them to learn about Text Features, which is an important skill for 3rd graders who are making the change from learning how to read, to learning to understand what they read.

Having both the digital and print editions is important. They can sit with a friend and read the articles together in the print edition. The digital gives us fantastic videos and fun games that go along with their articles. Overall it's just a fun way to learn!
