Connecting With One Another

Help me give my students iPads, notebooks, dry erase markers, dry erase boards, and some tempera paint.

My Students

My students are full of energy, excitement, and a natural curiosity about the world around them. My students love to make connections between the things we are reading and learning to their own lives. "I have a connection!" is something I hear multiple times a day. These connections are as diverse as the learners in our classroom and happen during reading, math, art, and independent work. Because many of my students live in poverty they don't have all the necessary tools to be considered successful in school. I hope to give them the tools to make even more connections to the world around them.

My Project

First graders love to make connections. "I have a connection!" and "We are the same!" are heard often as we read books and talk to one another. Even more exciting are the times students make connections between lessons in the classroom and independent work. "This is like what we did yesterday!" is one of the most motivating connections for students. Many of my students do not have access to tools at home that can help them connect our learning with the larger community.

Please help my students make new connections through technology, writing, and art.

iPads will be used by students for virtual field trips and individual reading/math skills practice. Notebooks, dry erase boards, markers, and paint will be used for students to communicate their learning with others in the class and throughout the school.
