Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am second year teacher currently teaching in a Title 1 school. We are in a brand new campus with very few resources since the school budget is very low. My students are Dual Language students that come from low income families. Unfortunately, some of my students were affected by Hurricane Harvey and had some who were displaced. My students strive to learn every day. We do not have many Spanish sources and books in our classroom library. They are on their way to become great readers but need more sources to get to where they need to be to be successful readers.
My Project
My students are beginning to start their reading journey. We have fiction books but not many choices. It would be great to expand our classroom library. Many of these books are in Spanish.
Students have really enjoyed reading Magic Tree House books but we don't have the complete series.
It would be great to add on to that collection. We also discuss certain authors like Tomie De Paola and use figurative language using Amelia Bedelia books.
Reading helps my students not only grow as a reader but also use books to expand on strategies such as predicting, inferring, and comprehension. I would really appreciate all the help we can get.
