Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 150 motivated students using STEM Lab computers, programs, and robotics equipment. COVID prevented many hands-on projects last year. Students are excited and motivated to begin building and interacting with technologies that will help them learn 21st century skills and positively influence their futures.

The students are now back and ready to engage with the hands-on technology in our STEM Lab.

We are revamping STEM Lab to incorporate latest technologies and opportunities to inspire the next generation of makers!

For many of the students, STEM Lab is the best part of the school day. It is where they explore a technology in a project of their own choosing. More than half of my students come from low-income households with limited resources. STEM Lab is the only place many students have hands-on access to learn about different technologies.

My Project

The students have the most fun and learning when the code they are writing has a real-life impact on an object, building a robot that rises to the design challenges would allow students to work through the engineering design process as they create a design to match set criteria (MS-ETSI-1). The drone remote will give students experience with how their drone will react before coding their drone through obstacle courses and engineering the attachments to perform lightweight drops of payloads. The students recommend improvements to their design based on advantages and disadvantages(6-8.CS.D.1), and create systems to identify and fix components in the system (6_8.CS.T.1) into new challenges, and work to resolve bugs in their code.

Robots and drones are a great tool to help students take off with their engineering design coding skills by applying what they know to a hands-on project.

With COVID restrictions still in place, the robotics kit provides hands-on learning for students while maintaining COVID safety guidelines.

The design challenges motivate students to research solutions and reengineer their design based on feedback from the real-life interactions of their creations. The opportunity to work with robots and drones supports students choosing career paths in technical fields.
