Connecting to Mathematical Concepts Using MathStart Read Alouds!

My students need math-based read alouds! These MathStart books, written by Stuart Murphy, are a great way for young children to connect to mathematical concepts.

My Students

Hola! I have taught bilingual (Spanish) kindergarten in the Chicago Public School system for the past 9 years. The students I teach come from predominantly low-income families and are all English Language Learners. Every year, I am excited to provide my young students with experiences and resources that they otherwise may not come across.

I am passionate about teaching early childhood and love exposing my young students to new experiences, getting them excited and invested in their own learning!

My Project

I need Math Start books as a way to introduce mathematical concepts to my young students. These MathStart books are wonderfully age appropriate and introduce various math concepts. I try to read a story before every math lesson, to engage students and to provide an entertaining introduction to the content being taught. I have some of these books but am hoping for the whole set so that students can make connections to the stories before beginning the formal lesson!

The MathStart books, clips to label the math book bins, and the copy paper I am requesting, will help my students interact and engage in the math lessons.
