Help me give my students a way to connect to history through stories.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Dietz's classroom raised $777

My Students
I teach a very diverse group of students that travel from all over Los Angeles to be a part of our school. They are the youngest at a span school that goes all the way through high school. They are energetic and motivated. They love learning and trying new things! Many of them wake up extra early to ride a bus to SOCES. I co-teach with a wonderful resource teacher to fully include our special education students in a general education classroom. We are excited to be back on campus!
My Project
History can be difficult for students to understand, but reading stories about history can help them relate. We will use class sets of historical novels to compliment our history instruction.
Reading the stories of others will help students relate, empathize, and remember our past.
Teaching history from the perspectives of those that lived it will make a great impact and create global citizens that understand the events that shaped our current society. Students will read stories about Native Americans, travelers during the westward expansion, and the gold rush. I have also included a book to teach about the internment camps.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
