My students need a K'NEX Motor Pack and the following K'NEX Education kits: Forces, Energy & Motion, Gears, Levers & Pulleys, and Simple & Compound Machines.
What's a simple machine? How do force and motion work? The inquisitive minds of my students want answers to these questions, but our only resources are reading materials or online videos. Imagine how much greater their understanding when they can use these K'NEX kits. My students need a K'NEX Motor Pack and the following K'NEX Education kits: Forces, Energy & Motion, Gears, Levers & Pulleys, and Simple & Compound Machines.
My class is a combination of 4th and 5th grade students and wanna-be scientists.
We are helping one another learn about science in a district with no science program or classroom science resources. We are a high poverty Title I school in Phoenix, Arizona, but we won't let our situation hold us back from learning.
My Project
With these science-based K'NEX kits, we will be able to learn about levers, pulleys, incline planes, force and motion. We will have models we can create and investigate to deepen our understanding of how the world around us works. This project will provide my students with hands-on science and engineering knowledge all within the realm of building with toys. These kits will help us understand the science concepts above to a much higher degree than reading a book or watching a video. We can take what we learn and then apply that knowledge to building our own creations. These kits are durable and will have an impact on current and future classes.
We need to understand the basics in order to build our future.
Donations to this project will help us purchase K'NEX science kits which we will use to develop our science and engineering knowledge, as well as developing our teamwork and language development skills. We know we will be engaged and have fun learning through this project.
