Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Never let it be said that the students in our room don’t embrace and value the opportunity to learn. Whether engaged in comprehension skills or seeking solutions to complex math problems, my students cherish the social enrichment found in collaborative group engagement. Nothing brings more joy to the task of learning for this multiculturally diverse group of learners than the sharing of thoughts and ideas. In fact, it is this type of collaborative enrichment that I depend upon to break through the walls of their limited urban life and help many of them to witness the possibilities available to them throughout the world. However, with just a little help, we could open the world even wider to these curious 5th graders, which is why I am seeking your assistance in procuring these Chromebooks.
For six hours a day, my classroom provides safety and security to 30 students that represent 2nd and 3rd world countries throughout the globe, and speak a variety of different languages.
Our school is located in an area of Philadelphia severely hit by socioeconomic decline. Every student attending this school is entitled to free or reduced lunch. Our school represents an immigrant commune.
My Project
Donations to this project could make the difference between my students confidently entering 6th grade ready to meet the challenges ahead, or starting out behind their peers, engaged in superficial attempts at duplicating real-world experiences. Unlike many of their peers engaged in the practical experience provided by summer travel, my students risk the possibility of sliding precariously behind in their academic study. So, this project will help to level the playing field and bring equitable academic solutions to an underserved group of students thirsting for knowledge.
With access to Chromebooks, my students will be able to engage in inquiry, research, collaboration, presentation, and reflection.
They will deepen their sense of the world and make their learning public. In addition to real-world exposure, these Chromebooks will provide struggling students with the opportunity to access valuable instructional sites such as Scholastic, Learnzillion, and Readworks.
