Connecting the Classroom Through Chromebooks

My students need access to technology in order to be prepared for statewide testing. One hundred percent of my students do not have access to technology at home and this would give them the opportunity to excel.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at the marvelous MGF elementary/middle school in South Baltimore. Our school is located in the tight-knit community of Brooklyn where 33% of the students are African-American, 32% white, 31% Hispanic and 4% Asian/Pacific Islander. Ninety-two percent receive free or reduced-price meals at school and we are a Title I school. Our school reflects the intense diversity of South Baltimore.

Our principal, staff, and community members are dedicated to making MGF a school of high achievers.

Students are held to high academic and social expectations and thus result in strong, intelligent, young leaders of Brooklyn. Many of my students' parents attended MFG when they were in elementary/middle school. Although my students hold a deep respect and love for the community of Brooklyn, they are exposed to various traumatic incidents on a daily basis. My students use their experiences outside of the classroom to fuel their hunger for learning and success. With the help of technology they can achieve their goals of being well-rounded scholars.

My Project

I am asking for 10 Chromebooks because it will give my scholars the opportunity to learn technological skills needed in and beyond the classroom. My scholars need access to technology and these Chromebooks will give them multiple opportunities to facilitate their own learning experiences as well as engage in a virtual classroom. Additionally, many of my students are English Language Learners and this will help in their exposure to the English language. Chromebooks will give scholars multiple lenses to texts, videos and content learned in the classroom by encouraging them to express themselves through typing and presentations of their learning.
