My Students
My students come together from a wide variety of backgrounds to build a strong school community. They are eager to learn and appreciate the opportunities afforded them.
The library is the heart and soul of our school.
I work hard to create a safe space where students can explore new interests and entertain new ideas. I believe books are the key to unlocking their best future.
My Project
Our school is built on the ancestral lands of the Kumeyaay people. It is important that students have access to an accurate account of the current and historical stories of these people.
These books and stories will expose our students to authentic representations of indigenous experiences both past and present.
Reading accounts created by indigenous authors is the most responsible way to avoid misrepresentations and stereotypes that are commonly found in the books that are available to our students.
I will share the picture books through read-alouds when students visit the library and then make them available for students to check out. The reference books will be highlighted as sources of accurate information for students in upper grades who may either use them in the library or check them out for more in-depth research.
