My Students

I love the students at my school for these scholars thrive as a Title I school. The students emerge from diverse backgrounds and excel academically with varying learning styles. While these students meet these concerns at various levels of achievement, the undergirding factor that connects all scholars is their love of music. Their love of singing and playing of instruments in a group setting while encouraging their peers who are achieving as solo artists. The scholars remain active learners in music classes and I love and encourage these skills.

My Project

As the inclusion of all students in music continues to improve, my desire is to engage all students in making music. Seeing the faces of students as the sounds of rhythms and pitches captivate the hearts of my autistic students and assisting

these students develop into drummers is something I'll never forget.

While my autistic students are nonverbal, the inclusion of hand-held steel drums can enhance their overall recall if assigned melodies while creating their rhythms. Music is an easily accessible language, requiring no translation. Furthermore, the inclusion of the hand-held steel drum will continue to boost students' overall confidence in creating music at an individual level.
