This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Horizonte is an alternative high school, most students are here because they have overcome or are currently facing difficult circumstances and are determined to persevere and graduate.

Our school is made by a community of curious, motivated, and thoughtful students who want to be seen and make their mark in the world.

Our school serves 9th-12th graders and continuing-education adults. We are a racially diverse school where most of our students are racial and ethnic minorities with a high percentage of English Language Learners, students who qualify for Special Education services, and students who are currently facing homelessness.

Our students come from various high schools, when they arrive they look forward to engaging with students in similar situations and developing friendships. With limited resources for extracurricular activities at our school, our students do not have many opportunities to engage outside of the classroom. The need for connection is even greater after the remote learning year.

My Project

This project will support students in having a welcoming space and give all students the opportunity to interact with one another outside of class.

Our counseling office is hoping to provide a space where students can come before school and during lunch to make friends, work on homework, relieve stress, gain school credit, develop positive coping skills, learn a new hobby, and have fun in a safe and uplifting manner.
