Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 4th-grade students are from East Harlem in New York City. They come from diverse backgrounds and learning levels. Some are English language learners and others have Individual Education Plans. Many of the students also qualify for free or reduced-price lunches.

What I love about my students is their passion for learning, excitement to explore and their ability to have a positive outlook as they grow and learn socially and academically.

These students amaze and inspire me daily. They deserve equality and opportunity to continue to grow and achieve their dreams.

My Project

These books will allow each student to have their own copy and give students more equity in reading and working at their own pace rather than my reading one copy of the book.

Too often my students have to share books and this impedes them from being able to work at their own pace.

Every student deserves to have their own book when we study a text in depth. By having their own book they can go back and reread or read ahead, share parts of the text with a partner or group, and I can assign different pages for different groups of students to work on. Otherwise, it makes having quality discussions, homework, and differentiated lessons nearly impossible.
