This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a fifth grade classroom in a high-need community and desire access to the web! My students work hard and love projects. Help me give them the chance to make their researching dreams come true.
Our school is lucky to have a rotating cart of laptops on each floor. However, our biggest obstacle is the Internet. Our classroom does not have wireless Internet connection. So often, students ideas and researching projects never get a chance to come to fruition due to the fact that they can not easily gain access to the web. We have laptops that are easily portable into the classroom but are not afforded the opportunity to log onto the web to access a wealth of information. You can't imagine the frustration and look of disappointed on the faces of my students when they are eager to learn but not given the opportunity.
A quick and easy fix would be to connect us to the Internet via a router. Our laptops could be connected to the router and hub, connecting us to the web. The laptops can be easily set up so that the students have access to the Internet.
Think about the excitement you would help to bring to my classroom. My dream is to come into my classroom and telling my students, "Today We CONNECT to the Web!". My students will now be able to research articles, read current events, access Online enrichment and reinforcement in literacy, math, science, and social studies.
You have the chance to to make it possible to give students in my classroom access to the web, something that you and I get on a daily basis...one of which many of them never get, except in school!
