Our library isn't just about books, it's about ideas. The ideas we explore in books, ideas we discover electronically, and especially, the ideas we create and share with our peers based on our exploration and discoveries.
If you stepped into our library, you'd see students taking charge of their learning and following their passions.
Some students escape into a good book while snuggling with our giant teddy bear, oblivious to the chatter of voices and snapping of Magnatile construction. A pair of students might be tinkering with copper tape and a battery to light an LED while others draw the next panel in their comic strip. If you came by on a Wednesday, you'd be invited to join the Harry Potter club led by a 4th grader or our Captain Underpants club led by a 3rd grader.
Creating a safe, inviting and stimulating learning space is essential for my students, 99% of whom are military, and are living far from their extended families. To foster a sense of community, I host family events where parents and kids can engage in playful learning opportunities. These events create positive memories and connect parents and kids to previously undiscovered talents.
My Project
These picture books and novels are a part of the Global Read Aloud program and the Hawaii's Children's Choice Book Award.
Students will read aloud to peers, act out scenes and create art based on their reading to strengthen their understanding of the texts.
Students will participate in activities and conversations both at school and virtually, with students in Hawaii and around the world. We will also watch author videos and post questions for the authors.
These books will be available for students to borrow from their classrooms and the library.
