This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a teacher, I have faced a lot of challenges in maintaining the confidentiality of my students. Lots of the kids just throw personal information away in the trash can, and that trash can gets taken to our dumpster, which is locked up but not always protected due to the vandalism in our city. Some of the documents that do not quite make it home and get thrown out into the class bins have personal information. While we have a shredder for documents in the main office, our classrooms really do need a shredder.

Help me keep my students' personal information private immediately (instead of having to wait to gather a pile of documents for the main office and sit there for hours shredding) by getting us a shredder.

I have many students with IEPs, 504 plans, and other documents like field trip forms or testing results that need to be shredded right away. We literally have one shredder for all of the classes to use, so we have to be mindful about saving up and then taking them to the office to stand there and personally shred. Sure, I could do that, but if I had one in my classroom, I could just shred it immediately and have it take seconds at a time.

If you are a teacher, then you understand how piles of documents build up and make you seem untidy. I would rather spend my time with my students teaching something. I would rather have an actual break on my break time and not have to spend it putting in papers to shred, or have to wait on someone else to do it. It might seem like a trivial thing, but I actually value my time and my personal funds. Thank you for your support!
