My Students
My kindergarten students are full of energy and love to play and learn. They live in a small rural community in West Michigan and attend a K-4 building. A majority receive free/reduced price lunch because of the low income area we live in. My classroom is made up of students of varying academic abilities and socioeconomic status.
Despite any struggles that they may be facing, my kindergarten students approach each day with positivity, excitement and a strong love for learning!
My Project
Young writers need strong hands and examples of where they are headed. My students need books for mentoring their writing as well as a variety of manipulatives like snap cubes and Play-Doh for fine tuning their fine motor skills. This project will put fun materials in their hands that will strengthen fingers and aid in hand eye coordination... all important beginning writing skills. The mentor texts(the books) will provide students with examples of exemplar writing, being age appropriate they will engage and encourage students to see themselves as writers and experiment with various writing genres. Together these materials will create confident writers in a developmentally appropriate way.
