This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are beginning their elementary school career when they enter my class. My classroom will be full in August with curious 4 year-olds who want to learn through play and having hands on learning activities. My goal is to have students work with partners or small groups to learn how to code with Learning Resources Coding Critters (Scamper & Sneakers, Bopper, and Ranger & Zip).

The Coding Critters will allow my students to learn coding at an introductory level with familiar critters such as dogs, cats, and bunnies.

Students will work with a partner or in a small group and collaborate to complete a code so their dog, cat, or bunny will move and interact in a little playground area specific for each coding critter. Students will not only work on coding, they will use communication skills, collaborate, take turns, use directional turns (left, right, forward, backward, up, over, behind, next to, et.) while having fun.

Student will learn coding in a unique, hands-on activity without the use of screens. These activities will challenge them, in an age-appropriate way, they can predict and see if their prediction will come true and can make changes to correct if needed.
