My students need ukuleles for their new music program they have voted to start. I'm requesting 10 Diamond Head ukuleles with gig bags to get us started.
I teach at the second most diverse middle school in the state of Missouri, who will one day attend the #1 most diverse high school (also listed one of America's most challenging schools!) Over 60% of our students receive free or reduced lunches.
In my classroom, students have chosen what they want to learn and now they need the resources to do it!
My students have been given the opportunity to explore some non-traditional subjects during the school day, and they have chosen music! Through music, I hope to give my middle schoolers confidence and drive. This opportunity is for students already enrolled in traditional music programs and beginners alike, so no one is excluded!
My Project
All students need to build confidence. Music is a beautiful way to bring people together and celebrate our differences. My students have voted to start a beginner's ukulele club for those experienced with music and just starting out.
With a class set of ukuleles, we can foster lifelong skills like perseverance, grit, and self-confidence.
Students will spend 9-18 weeks learning the ukulele before they'll switch to a new club. After the first year, they can come back for a 2nd or 3rd round of ukulele club to advance their skills even more. My goal is to awaken a passion for music and a confidence they never knew they had!
